Why Politicians should Never get Involved in Skateboarding Competitions

Skateboarding competition is all about fun, hanging out with your friends and making new ones. Now, what happens if a skate competition is organized by politicians? Just recently, Davao skaters headed to Sta. Cruz - a far point in Davao that is almost near Digos City, we went there expecting a fully organized and fun event but it turns out that there was something more behind this "skate competition". Based on what I noticed, most of the sponsors where (as you have suspected), politicians. That's right folks, they have "sponsored" a skate competition in order to get recognized because of the coming May 2013 senatorial and local elections.

For me, there's nothing wrong with them sponsoring the local skate scene but with the "emcee" repeating a long list of names of "sponsors" that don't even care about this event; it's just plain annoying. What makes it even worse is the hot weather that accompanied the summer season, it was just HOT. It would've been rewarding if we really did have a great time (aside from the free food). Here are some of the awful things that I have noticed:

  1. Most of the "organizers" hardly skate or did not step on the board their whole lives.
  2. The "sponsors" consists nothing but endless names of politicians.
  3. There was an "entrance fee" for 10.00 php, even if you are only going to watch (so much for the sponsors).
  4. The "emcee" was super annoying. She hardly knew what she was doing. I was guessing she was the organizer but I'd rather not think about that.
  5. They kept on saying that the registration fee was going to be donated to a said church that they are trying to build up. I have nothing against religion but please don't rub it in our faces.
  6. It was super-to-the-highest-level-badly-organized skate event. It's like they didn't even put some thought on the schedule.
  7. Here's the worse part, I heard rumors that the organizer/emcee insisted on 200 php registration even when the poster said 150 php, now what would you say about that?
Good thing there was free food in all the mayhem that ensued. We were greatly welcomed and we appreciate that but come on, next time, please don't get us involved if you run for politics or trying to win our vote.

I had a great time but please, please never do this again.

  1. mga politiko way patawad.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHA can I hashtag? #HYPOCRITES. No offense. lol Well said Raven.

    2. Geez @raven :D lol Ofcourse...sometimes...I'm getting tired of Facebook. So might as well make tambay here at G+, Twitter, Tumblr and Blog hehehe

    3. Hahahaha okay2. Twitter is acceptable but g+? Man, you're really bored.

  3. may list ka pa nang "awful things"... free food lang pala katapat mo. iyakin...

  4. This comment has been removed by the author.

  5. parang ano na csnasabi mo, mas mabuti nang magpasalamat na may sponsor or support kesa wala.. mag isip ka.. liit ng utak mo, pustahan tau, kung tinggihan ng politiko ang sponsor or support, sasabihin mong kuripot at korakot.

at ngaun somoporta at tumolong, lalagyan mo nang malixa, palawakin po n10 ang ating isipan.. dont always think nega on politicians do, instead appreciate kay ni tabang cla..

  7. "For me, there's nothing wrong with them sponsoring the local skate scene but with the "emcee" repeating a long list of names of "sponsors" that don't even care about this event; it's just plain annoying."

What do you expect from sponsors, that they would just step back? Of course they would advertise themselves from time to time, whether it be a political source or not.

"What makes it even worse is the hot weather that accompanied the summer season, it was just HOT."

    This is just plain irrelevant.

  8. Obviously you guys have never heard about humor and being sarcastic. It's okay, all your comments are relevant and important to my post. :)

I have actually calculated that I would receive a lot of criticisms when I clicked on the "publish" button for this one.

and FYI, skateboarding is not for the "international" recognition; it's all about having fun even when you're just cruising down the street.

Thanks for all the criticisms. I really appreciate them.

    1. so dili diay ka skateboarder. mas maau pa mg palit ka ug sapatos na naay ligid para mka cruise ka down the street. real skateboarding = pain, broken bones, ug uban pang samad-samad. where's the fun on that!! mga wannabe lang man diay mo!
kung musondog lang man mo sa mga kano, dapat mas hawod pa mo sa ulaw ulaw lang mo...tanaw sa mga tao sa inyo mga lago, rejects when your cruising the street and having fun,

    2. We all have our own perspectives on what skateboarding is. I am in no position to change whatever it is you think about it. For me, skateboarding is not about being good at it or being well-known because you skate (or even better than the pros in the US).

It's the joy of learning new tricks and going through its ups and downs with your friends who you know will support you 'til the end.

      Fame is not everything.

  9. okay rman ang blog,

    remember that guys

    1. Yep! I totally agree. I should think more of what I write next time. It's great that I heard feed back from a more sensible crowd.

We did have fun while we were there. I just listed the things that I did not like in the event.

      Thank you so much. :)
